The Tour

The Year of the Flood tour of 2009 will cover six countries — the U.K., the U.S., Canada, Holland, Germany, and Austria. Some of the events are readings and/or on-stage interviews, one is a remote signing, coast to coast – from Toronto to Halifax and Vancouver – but many of them are designed as fundraisers for environmental organizations. These combine dramatic readings from the novel with a number of the Gardener hymns to be found in the novel, and for which Orville Stoeber has written the music.

In each city, local singers and actors will take part, which will lower the carbon footprint: thus each “Year of the Flood Event” will be different, and will have its own local flavour. Margaret Atwood will play the narrator.  At some venues, food inspired by the book will form part of the mix. All events will be blogged by Margaret and anyone else present who wants to help.
